Littleborough Brass Band brought rhythm and revelry to Saddleworth’s streets with a crowd pleasing twist at the 2025 Whit Friday March Contests, bagging a string of fourth section prizes while donning cowboy hats and playing a pop hit.
Littleborough Brass Band turned heads and captured prizes at this year’s Whit Friday Brass Band Contests by blending musical talent with a sense of fun.
The band secured 4th Section victories in Uppermill, Lees, Scouthead and Denshaw and also finished runner-up in the same category at Friezland. Their march contest piece, the classic “Ravenswood”, was performed under the baton of guest conductor Steve Kane.
Adding flair to the night, band members ditched their traditional attire in favour of cowboy hats and boots. They were joined by players from Boro’ Brass, part of the Littleborough Brass Bands Association, and entertained crowds with a specially arranged Whit Friday version of Pitbull’s pop anthem “Timber”.
Adrian Woodhead, chair of the association, said: “Whit Friday is always a key date in our calendar and we’re extremely proud of what we achieved once again this year. The players worked hard in preparation, and the results are a testament to their commitment.”
The band’s next public performance will be at the Littleborough Rushbearing Festival on Saturday 12 July.
