A series of new community forums are to be set up across Bury for all residents to help shape daily life in their local neighbourhoods.
The aim is to bring together representatives from across the community in a wide range of sectors: from voluntary and faith groups to businesses and social enterprises; cultural, sports and environmental action groups; health providers, emergency services and ward councillors.
The new forums will be a place to share insight, shape local priorities and to collaborate on collective community action in the context of the borough’s Let’s Do It Strategy.
The first of these meetings will be held in November as follows:
- Wednesday 10 November - Woodbank Cricket Club (6pm to 7.30pm)
- Thursday 11 November - St Mary’s Community Centre, Prestwich (2pm to 4pm) and Prestwich Methodist Church Hall (6pm to 8pm)
- Thursday 11 November - Christ Church, Ramsbottom (6pm to 7.30pm)
- Monday 15 November – Radcliffe Market (1pm to 3pm, and again from 6pm to 8pm)
- Tuesday 16 November – Whitefield Bowling Club (6pm to 7.30pm)
- Thursday 18 November – Bury Baptist Church (4pm to 6.30pm)
- Monday 29 November - East Bury (venue to be confirmed)
Councillor Richard Gold, cabinet member for communities, said: “This is a great opportunity for everyone in their neighbourhoods to share local knowledge, their insights and experience, to shape local priorities.
“It’s about creating places where conversation, collaboration and collective action can happen.
“Under our Let’s Do It strategy, we want to create a borough where every single person can play their part and pull together to bring about the Bury of the future that we all want to see.
“Because, when we work together, we can make a real difference.
“Come along, get involved, have your say and make a difference.”
The November sessions will include a particular focus on community safety priorities to develop a new Community Safety Plan for the borough and to shape collective community activity in each neighbourhood to support this. The Community Safety Plan will outline how all partners locally will work together to impact upon crime, disorder and reduce re-offending in the local area.
