22-year-old Adil Iqbal has been jailed for 12 years for killing a mother of two, who was also pregnant with her third child when he lost control of his BMW which was being driven at excessive speeds.
Adil Iqbal drove his BMW at 116MPH because he thought he was “cool” and a “big man” according to Frank Hough, the father of Frankie Hough, in his victim impact statement.
Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court was shown dashcam footage provided by drivers who had captured Iqbal’s driving on the motorway and surrounding roads in the minutes before he hit Frankie’s SKODA Fabia which was in the hard shoulder following a puncture.
He had his phone in his left hand, and the steering wheel in the right hand as he videoed himself driving at speeds of 85 and 116 miles per hour.
Police collision investigstors say they believe that when Iqbal struck the Skoda he had most likely been travelling at a speed of 92 miles per hour.
The two children who were admitted to hospital, have now left but do suffer from brain injuries which will cause issues with emotional and educational development and give them an “uncertain future” according to the prosecution.
Frank Hough, the father of Frankie Hough, said that Frankie was “my daughter and my hero” and that he is “left with only memories” of Frankie.
Mr Hough added: “I promised Frankie I would keep her safe and on that day someone broke the promise I made and I can’t forgive him for that.”
Frankie’s mother’s statement was read out by a barrister on her behalf “watching her lie there with bruised eyes waiting to die was soul destroying.”
Defending Mr Singh said that Iqbal didn’t mean for this to happen, which Judge Maurice Green remarked “nobody does and nobody sets out with this intention.”
Adil Iqbal, through his barrister, says he understands that “no length of prison sentence will restore the loss of life.”
