The Mayor of Bury is inviting young people (aged 4-19) to take part in a special creative competition celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6 May and commemorating Queen Elizabeth II.
They are invited to create works of public art, textiles or craft pieces, a digital display, or a performance – the possibilities are endless!
All entrants will receive a certificate of participation and will be included in an online exhibition. The winners will get the opportunity to work with an artist and see their design become part of a commemorative legacy to mark the occasion. They will also be invited to a special event hosted by the mayor.

Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and the economy, said: “The death of the Queen last year was a moment of great sadness and reflection, but also an opportunity to commemorate the life of Her Majesty.
“In May, we will celebrate country’s first coronation for 70 years, the first to take place in most people’s lifetime. We’ve designed this competition to bring people together through art and create something special to mark a moment of history and share our appreciation of where we live.”

What does it mean to you? What do you hope for the future with a new King? What were the most memorable points from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, or what did you admire most about her?
How can you represent Bury in your design? Perhaps thinking about a royal visit, such as when Queen Elizabeth II opened Bury Town Hall.

How to enter
The designs should be in colour and on one side of A4 paper.
Email your designs MayorsOffice@bury.gov.uk with the title KCIII CORONATION or QEII COMMEMORATION.
Please clearly state the individual’s name, age and school or college.
Entries must be submitted by 5pm on Sunday 30 April. The winning entries will be announced during the King’s Coronation weekend on Sunday 7 May.
If an individual does not have access to an email, entries will be accepted by post to: Mayor’s Parlour, Bury Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury, BL9 0SW.
The entries will be judged by the Mayor, Deputy Lieutenants (who assist the Lord Lieutenant as local representative of The King) and the team at Bury Art Museum.
