Bury Council wants to improve the street environment and provide better travel options for everyone in the neighbourhood surrounding Victoria Street/School Street in Radcliffe.
Before proposals are developed, a ‘first stage’ public engagement is being carried out with the community, who are invited to tell the council about:
- The ways they currently travel
- How they feel about travel around their neighbourhood
- Any specific challenges and opportunities they think there are to improve the street environment and travel options
The engagement is open until Friday 22 November 2024. Local people and businesses can have their say online or at a community event as follows.
- · Monday 18 November 2024 at Radcliffe URC Church, Blackburn Street, Radcliffe M26 3WQ
- · 4pm to 6pm – drop-in session
- · 6pm to 7.30pm – community workshop
The scheme is one of several local schemes to be funded by UK Government via the Streets for All element of Greater Manchester’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement. It is part of the investment in the Bee Network to transform the way we travel across Greater Manchester.
The current engagement is a ‘first stage’ review to enable proposals for improvements to be drafted. Arup, an engineering and sustainable development consultancy, has been commissioned by Bury Council to oversee the engagement and draw up initial proposals in response to the feedback gathered.
Following this, a public consultation will be carried out on the proposals.
Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “We are encouraging all people and businesses in the Victoria/School Street neighbourhood to have their say on these important improvements. Leaflets have been delivered to all addresses within the scheme area and our scheme consultants have been out and about in the area talking to local businesses and residents.
“Don’t miss this opportunity to be involved in important changes to your neighbourhood. Come along to the community event on the evening of 18 November or make sure you have your say online.
“This is just one of many schemes across Greater Manchester that will contribute towards 50% of trips (1 million journeys) to be made by public transport, walking, wheeling or cycling by 2040.”
