Police have stepped up high visibility patrols across Greater Manchester this week, with officers focusing on Jewish communities and busy public events.
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that every available officer is currently on duty to reassure communities during what it described as a period of “profound distress and sorrow”.
Officers have been deployed to places of worship across the city region, with a particular emphasis on Jewish communities in north Manchester, Bury and Salford. GMP said a “high visibility presence” will remain in place in these areas.
Yesterday, additional patrols were also seen across Greater Manchester from Lancashire Police and Merseyside Police, working in visible support of GMP’s efforts.
The force confirmed that Manchester city centre will see an increased policing presence throughout the weekend, with several major events taking place, including the Conservative Party conference, three professional men’s football matches, and more than 20 other public gatherings.
A spokesperson said: “Policing never stops in Greater Manchester. Our officers are on hand to engage with the public, offer reassurance, and respond to any incidents or concerns.”
Figures released by GMP show the scale of recent operations. In the last 24 hours alone, officers have answered more than 1,500 emergency 999 calls in an average of two seconds, responded to over 300 emergencies within 15 minutes, and made more than 200 arrests for offences including domestic violence and burglary.
Members of the public are being encouraged to approach officers directly if they have concerns, or to call 101 for non-emergencies and 999 in an emergency.
