Impressive new Radcliffe SPAR store and Shell service station opens its doors

Radcliffe residents can shop and fill up at an impressive new SPAR store and Shell service station after it opened its doors for trade this month.

The brand new site is located on the busy A58 connecting Bolton and Bury on the junction with Watling Street, and it has completely overhauled the location of a derelict pub.

Customers queued up ahead of its opening, and those who were among the first through the doors were treated to a goody bag of SPAR freebies.

Twenty-seven jobs have already been created at the SPAR store with recruitment ongoing for a range of positions. It is the latest company-owned SPAR store and 40th forecourt to be opened by James Hall & Co. Ltd, based at Preston, who are the primary wholesaler and distributor for SPAR stores across the north of England.

The new store includes many of the features that customers have come to expect with James Hall & Co. Ltd owned SPAR outlets, with a Graham Eyes butcher’s counter, Clayton Park Bakery section and a range of food to go, including the SPAR deli, forming the in-store experience.

Popular products including the Tango Ice Blast and F’Real Milkshakes and Smoothies will be available to customers too, as well as a broad range of chilled and frozen foods, and a beers, wines and spirits area.

The forecourt area of the site includes six pumps, air and water machines, and an ATM, and there is plentiful parking for shoppers too with 19 car parking spaces. Two electric vehicle charging points will also be installed on the site in the coming months.

Fiona Drummond, Company Stores Director at James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “Our Radcliffe site is an exciting development and is the latest in our new generation of company-owned service stations.

“The site is perfect as it is accessible for serving both the growing community in Radcliffe while also meeting the demands of passing trade on what is a busy route for motorists.

“It has also created a number of new jobs for local people in the Radcliffe area, and we wish our new team well, led by manager Olivia and assistant manager Michelle, as they welcome customers into store.”

Arthur Wilson, who lives next door to the Radcliffe store, said: “The new store is very nice inside and is of course handy for me for petrol and food. It is a huge improvement on the derelict site it was.

“It is good for picking up your basics, but you could do a bigger shop too as the range is great. It has everything that you would need.”

Barbara Brisbane, from Prestwich, said: “The butcher’s counter is absolutely brilliant. I’m very fussy when shopping, particularly for meat, but it is very impressive.

“We pass frequently and will definitely be visiting again for food and petrol. If the store can maintain the high standard it has set, it will have people queueing out of the door.”

Vacancies for roles at the Radcliffe SPAR store can be found on the James Hall & Co. Ltd careers page here.
