How Bury businesses can benefit from paying the Real Living Wage

Boosting productivity and morale are just some of the benefits that businesses and organisations have highlighted after they have signed up to the Real Living Wage.

And local companies will be able to hear more at a business breakfast during Real Living Wage Week in November.

Bury Council has teamed up with the Real Living Wage Foundation, Good Employment Charter and Unison to organise the event to promote the benefits.

10,000 businesses across the UK pay the real living wage and have found the benefits to include:

  • improving the employer brand
  • employers remain competitive
  • boosts staff productivity
  • boosts staff motivation at work
  • employers retain existing staff
  • employers attract new staff and the quality of applications increases
  • paying the Real living wage helps organisations secure contracts and funding

The Real Living Wage is independently set and calculated according to the cost of living, based on a basket of goods.

It is higher than the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage because it is based on what it costs to live.

You’ll hear and be able to network with Bury businesses, The Real Living Wage Foundation, The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, Unison and representatives from Bury Council about how the Real Living Wage could help you.

Councillor Tahir Rafiq, Cabinet Member for Corporate Affairs and Resources said: “As part of our Let’s Do It Strategy, we’re committed to driving inclusive economic growth across the borough.

“A key component of this is promoting good employment and paying the Living Wage which supports our Anti-Poverty Strategy.

“The Real Living wage is good for businesses, good for employees and good for the borough.

“Come along to our event to find out more about how it can work for your organisation.”
