Hopwood Hall College students support Rochdale families with Easter food drive

Students who are part of the Friendship Group at Hopwood Hall College in Rochdale organised a food drive to support residents in need over the Easter period.

The initiative was led by the Army of Kindness group at the college’s Rochdale campus, with students collecting food to support people facing hardship during Easter.

The Army of Kindness, a Rochdale based charity, which will distribute them to residents across the borough who need additional support.

Students also attended sessions led by Mohammed Sheraz and volunteers from the charity, including a participant from the college’s ESOL study programme. The sessions focused on community support work and how individuals can get involved in volunteering.

College staff said the presentations highlighted the importance of supporting others and encouraged students to take an active role in their community. ESOL students were among those who expressed interest in volunteering following the sessions.

The project brought together students, staff and community organisations in a joint effort to address local need and promote volunteering among young people.
