Four men arrested after violent disorder involving vehicles in Heywood

Four men in their 20s have been arrested after a violent disorder involving two vehicles in Heywood. Police also arrested two of the men on suspicion of drugs offences.

Officers carried out warrants at three addresses across Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton in the early hours of 9 April following an incident on Prospect Street on Sunday 5 April.

Police were called shortly after 10pm to reports of a disturbance involving a white BMW 1 Series and a grey Audi A3. The vehicles were driven aggressively towards each other and were deliberately rammed.

It is believed occupants of the Audi were in possession of weapons and pursued the BMW. One person in the BMW suffered minor injuries.

Both vehicles left the scene and were later found abandoned on Hind Hill Street and Aragon Drive in Heywood.

One suspect was arrested on the evening of the incident on suspicion of violent disorder and has since been released on bail.

Following further enquiries, five additional suspects were identified. Four men aged in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. Two of those men were also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs.

A fifth suspect remains outstanding and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt of Rochdale Police said: “Over recent days, my officers and the wider team have been working around the clock to gather evidence and identify those responsible for this violent disorder.

“This was a shocking incident involving vehicles and weapons, which put members of the public at risk. Let me be absolutely clear, this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Rochdale or in the community of Heywood.

“We are pursuing all available lines of enquiry and will take robust action against those involved. If you were part of this, we will identify you and you will be held accountable.

“Our priority remains the safety of the public, and we will continue to have a visible presence in the area to provide reassurance and prevent further incidents.”
