A PCSO from Heywood has been recognised for her work in the community, picking up the Emergency Service Award at this year’s Roch Valley Radio Community Hero Awards.
Jennifer George received the award during the Roch Valley Radio Community Hero Awards at the Village Hotel in Bury on Friday, 26 September, where local heroes from across the borough were celebrated for their contributions.
Jennifer, who works as a Police Community Support Officer in Heywood, was praised for going above and beyond her role. As well as being a trusted and familiar face, she organises family fun days and community events that residents say simply wouldn’t happen without her.
She’s known for her calm presence, supportive attitude, and the way she brings people together. Colleagues, residents and local groups all describe her as someone who genuinely cares, always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand.
The award was given to recognise emergency service workers who show exceptional dedication, not just in uniform but in how they support the people around them. In Jennifer’s case, her efforts stretch far beyond the day job.
She has also built strong relationships with local charities, voluntary groups, and other third-party organisations that work alongside GMP. Many have said she’s a huge support to them, helping to make connections and ensuring everyone feels included and heard.
The Community Hero Awards, organised by Roch Valley Radio, celebrate the unsung heroes who make a real difference in their towns and neighbourhoods.
