A funeral business in Heywood has launched a new community funding initiative aimed at supporting local projects and organisations that are making a difference to people’s lives.
Kavanagh & Coates Funeral Services, based on Bethel Street, has announced the opening of its Community Assistance Programme, which offers financial grants to good causes within a three-mile radius of their premises. The programme is open to charities, community groups, and grassroots projects that tackle local challenges and improve wellbeing in the area.
Funeral Director Samantha Collier said the scheme is about more than just handing over money, it's intended to create lasting partnerships with people who know what the community needs.
“We know there are some brilliant projects in Heywood already doing fantastic work,” she said. “But we also want to discover those hidden gems that might be under the radar and offer them the support they need.”
The fund is split into four key areas: Health, Education, Employment Opportunities, and Poverty and Social Deprivation. It is hoped the funding will enable more local people to access vital services or opportunities they might otherwise go without.
Samantha added: “This isn’t a one-off gesture. We’re looking to build long-term relationships and remain connected to the community we serve. It’s part of our commitment to being a local business that gives back in meaningful ways.”
Her colleague Clare Dyson echoed the sentiment, noting that many small groups are “doing crucial work” and deserve more backing. “I’m already excited to see the kinds of initiatives we can support through this scheme,” she said.
The grants will be awarded in three funding rounds, two of which will take place this year. Applications for the first round are now open. Those interested in applying must show how their project supports at least one of the four priority areas.
More details, including eligibility and application forms, can be found on the Kavanagh & Coates website. The team can also be contacted via email for any specific questions related to the programme.
