A fundraising appeal has been launched to help cover funeral costs for a Middleton mother of four who has died aged 40 after a long illness.
Shona, from Middleton, died in the early hours of 23 April 2026 following a six year battle with cancer, according to a message shared by her family. They described her as a devoted mother, daughter and sister who continued to care for her children throughout her illness.
The appeal has been set up to help fund her funeral and support her four young children. Her family said any money raised beyond funeral costs will go towards helping the children in the months ahead.
In a statement on the fundraising page, her family said, “It is with shattered hearts that we share the devastating loss of our beloved sister, Shona, who passed away in the early hours of 23 April 2026 at just 40 years old, after a long and unbelievably brave six year battle with cancer.”
They added, “We are now raising funds to help cover the cost of Shona’s funeral and to give her the loving and dignified farewell she deserves.”
The family said Shona had undergone extensive treatment during her illness, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and had attended regular hospital appointments for specialist care. They also said she had been able to see her children shortly before her death while in hospital.
Support for Shona and her family has previously come from the local community. In 2021, fundraisers were organised to help her create memories with her children, including a holiday supported by donations from residents and local groups.
The latest appeal calls on the Middleton community to come together again to support her children following her death. Her family said sharing the fundraiser would also help raise awareness and support during what they described as a difficult time.
