Rochdale’s world-class murals could be crowned the best street art on the planet, but only if local people get voting before it’s too late.
Seven large-scale murals created during last month’s Common Walls International Mural Festival have been shortlisted by Street Art Cities, a global community that celebrates outstanding public art from around the world.
Some of the biggest names in street art, including Insane51, Smug, Onur, Seca One, AYLO, Lei-Mai and Epod, painted incredible works across Rochdale town centre during the festival, turning blank walls into striking pieces of cultural identity.
Now, the town’s efforts are being recognised on the global stage. Rochdale is the only UK entry with seven murals in the running for September’s Best New Street Art, and public votes will decide the winner.
The event was part of Rochdale’s year as Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture, and organisers are hoping this global spotlight will bring lasting recognition to the town’s growing reputation as a creative hub.
Voting is open now, but not for long. The murals are up against competition from across Europe, Asia and the Americas, and every vote will count.
