Armed police in camouflage uniform were deployed to East Street in Rochdale on Saturday evening (3 May), where a significant police presence remains in place and a property has now been sealed off as a crime scene.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers were seen outside a residential property off Rochdale Road, near Firgrove Playing Field. Witnesses reported multiple police vans and marked cars lining the street, with armed officers entering the property.
A window at the address had been smashed prior to police arrival. The property is now cordoned off, with crime scene tape visible across the front as officers continue their investigation.
The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. Neighbours have reported to us and on social media that they heard a large bang.
GMP has been approached for comment, but no official statement has been issued at this time.
Residents have been urged to avoid the immediate area while the police operation continues. There is currently no indication of a wider threat to public safety.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be published as information becomes available. Please come back shortly.
