An immersive sensory installation described as ‘like walking through a sleeping giant’ will take over Rochdale Town Hall Square this Saturday and Sunday
A spectacular explosion of colour and sound is coming to Rochdale this weekend, as the Colourscape experience returns to the borough for two days only.
The immersive installation, a giant inflatable labyrinth of light, sound and colour, will be set up in Rochdale Town Hall Square on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July. The structure, which has toured internationally, allows visitors to wander through glowing tunnels filled with changing hues and ambient music.
Described by previous visitors as “being wrapped in a rainbow”, Colourscape last visited Rochdale in 2024, when tickets sold out in advance.
To complement the installation, Rochdale Town Hall will host free Colourscape-themed family workshops in the Bright Hall from 11am to 4pm on both days. Children can take part in drop-in art activities with no need to book.
A special concert of colour, light and dance will also take place inside the town hall at 11am on Saturday, featuring motion-detecting lighting and performances by students from Redwood School.
In addition, the town hall’s sensory room will be open both days from 11am to 4pm to support visitors with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
Councillor Sue Smith, cabinet member for communities and cooperation, said: “Colourscape was a huge hit last year and we’re thrilled to welcome it back. Combined with all the free indoor family activities, this promises to be a weekend full of fun and imagination for people of all ages.”
Music will accompany the experience outdoors from 11.30am to 3.30pm each day. Tickets cost £6 for adults and £4 for children and can be booked at: rochdaletownhall.co.uk/events.
