A kaleidoscope of colour is returning to Rochdale this summer as Colourscape returns for a second year, promising a vibrant and immersive experience for all ages.
Rochdale Town Hall Square will be transformed into a dazzling landscape of light, colour and sound on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July, as Colourscape returns following a popular debut last year that attracted over 850 visitors.
The giant inflatable walk-through structure is made up of a maze of interconnected chambers flooded with intense colour. Described by past visitors as like ‘being wrapped in a rainbow’, the sensory installation features live music and dance performances that guide guests through the vibrant tunnels.
Part of the borough’s celebrations as Greater Manchester Town of Culture 2025–26, the experience will run from 11am to 4pm each day, with musical performances between 11.30am and 3.30pm. Tickets for Colourscape cost £6 for adults and £4 for children. Booking is essential and can be done via the Rochdale Town Hall website.
Inside the town hall, there will also be a free programme of activities, including a colour-themed arts workshop and an interactive light and colour experience. These events are free to attend and do not require booking.
Councillor Susan Smith, cabinet member for communities and cooperation, said: “It’s great to see our wonderful town hall play host to yet another fabulous, family friendly event. Our year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture will be packed full of events like this and it’s a wonderful opportunity for the borough.
“Colourscape promises to be a real showstopper, with incredible visuals and music combining to create a unique experience for visitors. I would urge people to book tickets for this soon, as they tend to go fast.”
Organised by the Eye Music Trust, Colourscape has already appeared in cities around the world including London, Amsterdam, Reykjavik and Beijing. Its return to Rochdale is being supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, as part of the town hall’s extensive restoration programme.
