A Greater Manchester choir dedicated to people affected by cancer is offering prospective members a unique opportunity to join them for a one-night-only taster session next month.
Bolton Cancer Voices, a community choir for anyone aged 18 or over with a current or past cancer diagnosis, will host a ‘Sing With Us’ evening on Monday 8 September, from 7.15pm to 9pm, in central Bolton.
The event is designed to give newcomers a chance to experience the warmth and joy of group singing, with no musical experience required. The session is open to anyone with a cancer diagnosis at any stage in life, whether newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or long recovered.
Karen Elliott, chair of the choir, said the evening was about more than music. “Monday nights are all about singing, friendship, fun, and sharing life-enhancing experiences,” she said.
“We accept new members all year round, but we’ve not run an event like this in a few years. With our festive rehearsals about to start, now is a great time to get involved.”
The choir is completely free to join, and there’s no audition process. People don’t need to be able to read music, and anyone from across Greater Manchester or beyond is welcome to attend.
Members range from complete beginners to experienced singers. Some have sung all their lives, while others are trying something new as a way to rebuild confidence and wellbeing.
Elliott added: “Singing is energising and sociable, it boosts mood and mental health. Our Musical Director makes learning easy for everyone and helps each person find their voice.”
The event also marks the start of rehearsals for the choir’s popular Christmas concert, which will be held at Bolton Parish Church on Saturday 6 December. This year’s guests will include the CC Concert Band.
