Budding artists, schoolchildren and creative residents in Bury are being encouraged to get their pens, paints and digital tools out for a special competition launched by The Rock Shopping Centre.
To mark its 15th anniversary this summer, the centre has announced a “Design a Birthday Card” contest, giving local talent the chance to be part of a public art installation and win a £30 shopping voucher.
The competition is open to people of all ages and runs until Friday 31 May. Ten winning entries will be showcased on the Wall of Birthday Wishes – a temporary display in St John’s Square at The Rock, running from 7 July to 25 July.
Winners will also be invited to attend the centre’s birthday celebration event, where they can see their artwork on display and enjoy the festivities.
Arnold Wilcox-Wood, Centre Director of The Rock, said: “This year is a milestone for The Rock and we wanted to include the community at the heart of our celebrations. The Wall of Birthday Wishes aims to celebrate creatives in Bury and we can’t wait to see the submissions. I’m sure we’ll have a tough job selecting the final 10 winners and we encourage everyone to get involved.”
Entry forms can be downloaded from The Rock’s website or picked up in person at participating retailers including The Entertainer, Bob and Berts, Smiggle and Starbucks. Completed entries can either be submitted by email or posted in the special competition box in St John’s Square, near The Range.
The competition is one of several planned activities to celebrate The Rock’s 15th year, with the centre looking to spotlight local talent and build community connections as part of its wider anniversary programme.
