Mill Gate Shopping Centre will be alive with the sound of needles and nattering when it hosts World Wide Knit in Public Day next week.
Those with a passion for knitting, regardless of ability or experience, can enjoy a stitch in time with other enthusiasts in Bury on Saturday, June 10.
Community arts group The Big Fandango will be at Mill Gate to teach knitting techniques and to explain the mental health benefits which craft hobbies can offer.
Mill Gate’s centre manager Angela Tierney said: “We’re delighted to be working with The Big Fandango to host what promises to be a fantastic World Wide Knit in Public Day.
“We’d urge anyone who has an interest in knitting or other crafts to pop down and say hello – it’s a day organised by the community, for the community.”
The Big Fandango, also based in Bury, provides suicide prevention training for anyone in the town and runs different craft projects and classes with the aim of reducing the risk of suicide.
A spokesperson from Learn to Knit Bury added that a community scarf will be available for knitters to contribute a row or two, with a view to making it as long as possible by the end of the day. People can also bring their own projects, or if they can't knit, kits will be available to get them started.
Mill Gate Shopping Centre opens Monday to Saturday from 9am-5.30pm and 10.30am-4.30pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. Email Kelly.townend@millgatebury.co.uk for more information.
