Bury Pride Festival 2022, which was held on Saturday 30th April was an absolute roaring success.
This award-winning equality, diversity, and inclusion event returned after 2 years of cancellations due to the Covid-19 outbreak and provided a fun-packed schedule, designed to promote and celebrate the unique LGBTQ+ community within Bury, whilst ensuring a family friendly welcoming environment.
Lead organiser David Catterall said “it’s gone really well and we are all extremely pleased with the amazing turnout and we are so happy that everyone here seems to have enjoyed themselves.”
The streets were lined with rainbow flags and a sea of people dancing in the Parade that snaked around the Town Centre. People were loving the array of stalls and all the fantastic acts that were situated in and around the Castle Armoury Drill Hall.
Catterall said “ It takes six months to plan it all from booking the acts to making sure the licenses are all in place as well as ensuring everything is in place from a health and safety point of view”.
“I am delighted with how everyone has pulled together to create such a fantastic event; one that everybody has been waiting for.
The annual Parade began at 1 pm with an absolutely amazing turnout doing the walk, which was showered with flags, face paint, and glitter. There were also Drag Queens, members of Geek Retreat dressed in an array of fancy dress as well as a Samba Band providing the music. The local Fire Brigade had representatives taking part and The Mayor Tim Pickstone acting as Guest of Honour and leading the celebrations.
It was a joyous day and everyone who was involved can be very proud of and delighted with how amazing it really was.
