Bury North MP celebrates achievements of local apprentices

Bury North MP James Daly has celebrated the achievements of two local apprentices in his constituency.

Adam Lewis and Owen Sheen have completed the hospitality qualifications, whilst working at Cosalea & The Victoria Walshaw.

Mr Daly presented, Adam and Owen with their certificates on Friday, as well as speaking with the pair at length regarding their experiences.

Adam’s first job was washing pots at The Victoria Walshaw, he quickly became a part of the team & progressed to work at Front of House serving in the bar & restaurant.

He went on to gain experience in other bars within Bury & then returned to The Victoria to be supported to undertake his Level 3 hospitality supervisor qualification.

This apprenticeship has allowed Adam to underpin & broaden the knowledge he has & have his wide skill set formally recognised, showing a great understanding of the sector & all the components needed to succeed.

Since leaving school Owen, who has completed a level 2 hospitality qualification, has worked hard to progress through his apprenticeship. He has excellent customer service skills & always goes above & beyond to strive to meet & exceed customer expectations.

Owen is keen to learn as much as he can from those around him and shows the characteristics of a great leader. This foundation will give Owen the impetus to progress in the sector & set him apart from others.

James Daly, MP for Bury North said: “It was an honour to present Adam and Owen with their awards and speak with them about how the apprenticeship has been such a positive experience.”

“They are both incredibly impressive young men, and it is brilliant to see a local company working so well with a local college to deliver this qualification.”

Company director, Lisa Moore added: “It's fantastic to see Adam and Owen complete these qualifications and gain recognition for the skills they have learnt in the hospitality sector which aren't always given the credit they deserve!”

321,400 people began apprenticeships in the last academic year, combining practical training in a job with study.

Owen will continue onto the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor course, with the company also having two other staff members on apprenticeships at this time working across both Walshaw Road & Killalea sites.
