A young martial arts champion from Bury is seeking community support as he embarks on his next big challenge, representing Team GB at the World Championships in Norway this November.
At just eight years old, Abu-Bakr made history as the first British Pakistani to win a gold medal in his age category, marking the start of an extraordinary career in martial arts. However, his journey has not been without obstacles. After suffering a serious injury that required surgery, Abu-Bakr faced a long and difficult road to recovery. But his determination and resilience saw him make a remarkable comeback last year, proving once again that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Now, Abu-Bakr has his sights set on the World Championships, where he aims to add another medal to his collection and showcase British martial arts on the global stage. To achieve his dreams, he needs the backing of the local community.
“This is more than just a competition—it’s about proving that setbacks don’t define us. Hard work and perseverance can lead to great success,” said Abu-Bakr. “I am proud to represent Bury and Team GB, and I’m grateful for any support that will help me reach my goal.”
Sponsorships and donations will go directly towards his training, travel, and preparation for the event. The local community has an incredible opportunity to support a young athlete who has already made history and continues to inspire others through his journey.
A special acknowledgment goes to DOJO Karate Centre and Sensei Irfan Ansari for their unwavering support and mentorship. Their guidance has been instrumental in Abu-Bakr’s growth, both as an athlete and as a resilient competitor who has overcome challenges with dedication and passion.
Those who wish to contribute and help Abu-Bakr on his road to glory can do so by supporting his fundraiser. This is a chance to be part of an inspiring comeback story and help a young champion bring another medal home to Bury.
