Bury Football Club has confirmed that Michael Jolley has been relieved of his duties as first team manager by mutual consent just days after taking up the role.
The club confirmed the decision on Sunday 14 December 2025, acknowledging strong opposition and concern expressed by supporters, staff, partners and players following Mr Jolley’s appointment as manager at Gigg Lane.
In a statement, the board said it recognised the impact the decision to appoint Mr Jolley had on individuals connected to the club and said welfare and stability were now the immediate priorities.
Assistant manager Tim Lees will remain in charge of the team on an interim basis while the board carries out a wider review of club operations.
The club said it would engage directly with players, staff and stakeholders to listen to concerns and ensure appropriate support is available. It added that the decision was taken to help restore confidence and allow space for reflection as the club seeks to move forward.
Bury FC said it remains committed to acting with integrity, transparency and respect, and that further updates will be shared when appropriate.
Michael Jolley also issued a brief statement following his departure. He said he did not wish his presence to deter the board from its aim of returning the club to the English Football League. He wished the board, players and supporters well for the future and said he hoped the club could continue its journey back to where it belongs.
Mr Jolley was appointed as manager earlier this week following the departure of Dave McNabb, but his arrival prompted a significant backlash from sections of the fan base.
