Boz Park in Unsworth has been formally designated as a Local Nature Reserve, marking its recognition as an important site for wildlife and the community. The site becomes the eighth reserve of its kind in the borough.
The designation follows a year long project led by Bury Council in partnership with Natural England, community representatives and other stakeholders. The new status recognises the park’s growing role in supporting biodiversity, conservation and public access to green space.
Local Nature Reserves are part of a national system coordinated by Natural England. Sites must demonstrate clear wildlife value and provide opportunities for people to learn about and enjoy the natural environment.
Boz Park has seen a number of improvements in recent years aimed at enhancing habitats and increasing access for residents. The new designation formally recognises these efforts and provides long term protection for the site.
Bury Council is continuing to work with City of Trees and community interest company Proffitts to further develop the park. Additional funding is being explored to support future improvements identified through local consultation.
Paul Robinson, Green Spaces Officer, said, “We’re delighted that Boz has now been recognised as a Local Nature Reserve. This designation reflects the passion and hard work of local residents, community groups and partners who have helped shape the park into a space that supports wildlife and offers real benefits for people. Protecting Boz Local Nature Reserve for future generations is an important step in strengthening Bury’s network of green spaces, and we look forward to continuing improvements with our partners and the community.”
Boz Park now joins Chapelfield, Chesham Woods, Hollins Vale, Kirklees Valley, Philips Park, Redisher Wood and Springwater Park as part of Bury’s Local Nature Reserve network.
