Bowlee Car Boot Sale and Market – one of the biggest and most popular in Greater Manchester - returns for its 2024 season this month.
Organised by Rochdale Borough Council, the season at Bowlee Community Park in Middleton begins on Sunday 17 March and then runs on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays until at least 18 August (excluding 5 May).
Sellers do not need to pre-book and the events run from 6am to 1.30pm. For the sixth year in a row prices have been froze at £15 for cars, £20 for small vans/people carriers/4X4s and £25 for large vans and above. For buyers, there are parking spaces for more than 1,200 cars at £2.50 per vehicle.
The event, now in its fourteenth year takes a break on Sunday 5 May to make way for Tour de Manc – the annual Greater Manchester not for profit charity bike ride that sets off from Bowlee Park with the choice of a 55-kilometre, 125-kilometre, 175-kilometre mile or 205-kilometre ride.
After the success of last years extended season where five extra sales were held, 25 sales will take place again this year. Improvements for 2024 include new traffic management at the entrance on Heywood Old Road, contactless card payments will be accepted at the gates and on two of the sales, parking for buyers will be reduced to £1. There will be no last minute cancellations – if poor weather is forecast a decision will be announced by 6pm the day before the sale.
Councillor Liam O’Rourke, cabinet member for environment, said: “Last years extended season was very popular so I am pleased this much loved event is returning to Bowlee Community Park before Easter. We have built an amazing following at Bowlee and it continues to grow. Bargain hunters can sniff out great deals and one-off items - things you'd never find in a chain or department store and of course you can sell your own things too.”
