Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary has been selected as The Rock Shopping Centre’s new charity partner, following a public vote that drew more than 1,000 responses.
Based in Edenfield, Bleakholt has long been a local favourite, offering shelter and second chances to hundreds of animals including cats, dogs, horses, farm animals and wildlife. The charity has operated for more than 60 years and provides education, rehoming, and long-term sanctuary support.
Bleakholt secured the most votes via The Rock’s online ballot, demonstrating the strength of public support for the organisation.
Arnold Wilcox-Wood, Centre Director at The Rock, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary as our new charity of choice. The support they received in the vote shows just how much they mean to the community. We look forward to working closely with the team to raise awareness, funds, and help even more animals in need.”
Karen Weed, Sanctuary Manager at Bleakholt, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be chosen. This opportunity will help us reach new audiences, generate vital funding, and share more of the amazing work happening every day at the sanctuary.
“Our major campaign this year is Project Purrfect, which focuses on extending and renovating our cattery. There’s a real cat crisis in the North West, and this project will let us care for more abandoned, neglected and sick cats. That’s why this partnership with The Rock means so much. Thank you to everyone who voted for us.”
The partnership begins on 1 July 2025, with a year-long programme of events and campaigns planned at the Bury-based shopping centre.
The Rock also thanked outgoing partner Secret Garden at Hoyles Park, whose time as the centre’s chosen charity has now come to an end.
Arnold added: “We’ve been incredibly proud to support Secret Garden this past year. We wish them continued success going forward.”
