Milnrow Memorial Park was a sea of red, white and blue on Saturday as the Milnrow & Newhey Districts Community Carnival brought a festive wave of patriotism and community pride to the borough.
The 'Best of British' parade stepped off at 1pm from Haugh Lane in Newhey, winding its way through Newhey Road, Dale Street and Station Road before a short break on Equitable Street. From there, the procession looped back along Bridge Street and returned to the park to round off the festivities by 2.30pm.
The route was packed with cheering residents and flag-waving families, as performers, volunteers and themed floats celebrated everything from classic British icons to local heroes.
Organisers hailed the day a massive success, describing it as “unforgettable” and thanking everyone who helped make the event happen. A statement from the carnival committee read: “A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along, took part, supported, danced, smiled, and made this year’s event one to remember.”
Special praise was reserved for the medical team and volunteers, who kept things running safely throughout the day before enjoying their own ride on the fairground.
The event was made possible with the support of D. W. Guest and Sons Old Tyme and Modern Funfair Amusements, Trafficare Ltd, Yorkshire Medical Services Hull, Graffic Detail and Total Smart.
