Police were called at 8.10pm on Monday 19 May 2025 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find a seriously injured man in the road. Despite their best efforts, he sadly died a short time later.
The victim’s family is being supported by specially trained officers as Greater Manchester Police launch a murder investigation.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.
A scene remains in place while detectives from GMP’s Major Incident Team carry out enquiries. Police believe the incident was a targeted attack and have reassured the public that there is no wider threat to the community.
Detective Superintendent Wesley Knights said: “Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.
“This is a truly tragic incident which has seen a young man lose his life. I would like to reassure the public that this is a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community.
“Local officers will remain in the area making enquiries, and there will be an increased number of highly visible patrols overnight and into Tuesday. If you have any concerns, please speak to them.”
Officers are appealing for witnesses and are urging anyone with dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage from the area to come forward.
