Apprenticeship is helping Rochdale resident start a career in housing

Rochdale resident Beth Smith said combining work and study was perfect way to learn for her, so she soon found her apprenticeship was one of the most rewarding things she has done.

The 20-year-old is sharing her story for National Apprenticeship Week (6-12 February).

Beth is an Area Works Coordinator Apprentice at national Housing Association, The Guinness Partnership. She said: “I believe everyone should have a place to call home, so working in property has always been one of my passions.

“I want to advance in my job so I may gain more property expertise. The fact that assisting customers is so rewarding makes this type of job path ideal for me.

“I have been doing my coursework to distinction level, and I’ve also gained a lot of confidence working at Guinness, doing things like administrative work, and interacting with customers, colleagues, and subcontractors.

“To anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship – I would say go for it! You won't regret it.

“It does more than give you valuable work experience, it helps you obtain a diploma. I feel more confident as a result of this. I am very grateful that  Guinness gave me this opportunity, as my apprenticeship has already taught me so much.”

There are 25 apprentices working across The Guinness Partnership. They work in a wide range of roles, such as electricians, data analysts and in learning and development.

Guinness also delivers employment programmes to its customers by working with external organisations such as Women into Construction (WIC). This not-for-profit organisation helps women get into the construction industry through training and work experience.
