A man aged 65 has died following suspected heart attack at a bus stop

A man has died after suffering a suspected heart attack at a bus stop in Prestwich, prompting a police and ambulance response in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to Bury New Road, near the junctions with Moor Lane and St Paul's Road, at around 7.55am on Sunday 28 December following reports of a concern for welfare.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 65-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is expected to be passed to the coroner.

Images from the scene showed a cordon in place around a bus stop, with officers stationed nearby. Witnesses described a large emergency response, including paramedics and vehicles from Hatzola, a volunteer ambulance service.

In a statement, GMP said:

At around 7.55am on Sunday 28 December, officers responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Bury New Road in Prestwich. A 65-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he sadly died.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances around his death and enquiries are ongoing.

The man has not been named. No further details have been released about the circumstances, and it is understood a coroner will examine the case in due course.
