A new public defibrillator has been installed outside The Famous Gamecock Inn on Rochdale Old Road in Bury, marking the 40th external defibrillator provided by the charity Restart the Heart CIO.
The installation was made possible through the support of pub managers Kelly Poole and Darren Pritchard, members of the local community, and the Restart the Heart team. The defibrillator is now registered on The Circuit, the UK-wide defibrillator network used by emergency services.
Sarah Jones, founder of Restart the Heart, said: “I feel a real deep sense of humbled and heartfelt achievement as we installed our 40th defibrillator at The Famous Gamecock Inn on Rochdale Road, Bury. Each device is a lifeline, saving lives through accessible defibrillators and CPR training.”
Andrew Luxton, chair trustee of the charity, said that six defibrillators had been used seven times in the past six months. He thanked Kelly Poole for hosting a small event to mark the occasion and encouraged continued public support to fund both new installations and maintenance of existing units.
Kelly Poole, who became manager of the pub eight weeks ago, said she had raised funds to support the installation as part of a community initiative. She added: “Thanks to Sarah, who saw a relevant post on Facebook and reached out, we were quickly connected with the team at Restart the Heart. In less than two weeks, they had installed the defibrillator – an incredible achievement in such a short time.”
Restart the Heart is a charitable incorporated organisation that works to improve access to emergency defibrillators and promote CPR training in Greater Manchester and surrounding areas.
