Couple’s six day walk supports end-of-life care in memory driven challenge.
A Rochdale couple have completed a 100 mile walk along Hadrian’s Wall, raising more than £800 for Springhill Hospice.
Helen, People Director at Routes Healthcare, and her husband Damian trekked from Bowness-on-Solway in Cumbria to Wallsend in Tyne and Wear over six days in a personal challenge inspired by the hospice’s vital work supporting people with life-limiting illness.
“It's been a tough challenge but we’re really pleased we’ve done it and raised money for Springhill Hospice,” Helen said. The pair faced early starts and sore feet but kept going for a cause they believe in deeply.
Springhill Hospice provides essential care for patients and their families in their homes and at the hospice, focusing on preserving dignity and quality of life during the most challenging times.
Helen leads Routes Healthcare’s partnership with the hospice through their Social Values programme. She said this trek wasn’t just a corporate initiative but a personal commitment to the community.
Every pound raised goes towards providing care, helping ensure no local family faces end-of-life care without support.
Their journey along the historic Roman landmark reminds us that compassion in action can bring real help to those in need. It’s a gesture that speaks to the heart of community values, walking the extra mile for others.
Routes Healthcare continues to work closely with Springhill Hospice, with both organisations aiming to ensure everyone in Rochdale has access to compassionate, dignified care when it’s needed most.
