Final phase of Wince Brook pathway improvements set to begin

Middleton Councillors

Work to improve paths at Wince Brook nature reserve in Middleton is nearing completion, with the final phase due to begin after five stages of the project have been finished.

Rochdale Council has spent the past year creating new pathways and resurfacing existing routes to improve access around the nature reserve between Roundthorn Road and Grimshaw Lane.

The improvements have created a one mile circular walking route through the woodland, making it easier for residents, families and visitors to enjoy the area. The new paths also provide a safer walking route for pupils travelling to and from Middleton Technology College.

Five of the six planned phases have now been completed.

The final phase of the scheme will focus on the rear of Mainway East and the rear of Apple Way and Naunton Road, completing the circular route.

Councillor Dylan Williams said, "What a transformation.

"Phase five of our Wince Brook pathways project is now complete, connecting all of the previous phases together creating a new circular route.

I'm really proud of this project I've led on which has been delivered by your three East Middleton Labour councillors, myself, Georgina and Terry.

The contractor, Red Fox has done an excellent job. The next step will be phase six, which will complete the project."

Councillor Georgina Jacques added,

"I'm so proud of the work that's been done on Wince Brook, just look at the paths.

This was work delivered by Cllr Dylan Williams and Cllr Terry Smith before I was elected, but what a team to work alongside. It's just amazing this project."
