Ramsbottom United set for home semi-final showdown with promotion at stake

Credit: Leo Michaelovitz

Ramsbottom United will host Padiham on Saturday 26 April in a crucial North West Counties Football League (NWCFL) Premier Division play-off semi-final, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

The Rams earned home advantage after finishing third in the league table, ending the regular season with a club-record 97 points from 46 matches. Their record – 29 wins, 10 draws and just 7 losses – also marked their 1200th semi-professional league game, reflecting the club’s enduring legacy.

Saturday’s fixture, held at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium (postcode BL0 0BS), will see the winner progress to the play-off final on Saturday 3 May, where they will face either Lower Breck or West Didsbury & Chorlton for a place in the Northern Premier League. The final will be hosted by the team with the better finishing position unless Lower Breck progress, in which case the game will be held at their ground.

Should the semi-final end in a draw after 90 minutes, the result will be decided by penalties, with no extra time played.

Supporters attending the match should note that entry is by cash only at the turnstile – no card facilities are available. Admission prices are £9 for adults, £5 for concessions, and £1 for children aged 12 and under (accompanied by an adult). Matchday programmes will be available for £2.

With a four-figure crowd expected, fans are advised to arrive early to avoid queues. Parking is not available on site, but nearby town centre car parks and local side streets offer alternative options within a 5–10-minute walk. Public transport is also convenient, with local buses and the East Lancs Railway stopping close to the ground.

Inside the stadium, refreshments will be available from the Tea Bar, offering traditional fare such as pie and peas, alongside drinks and snacks. A Can Bar will also be open, serving beer, lager, and cider.

As anticipation builds, Ramsbottom United’s historic campaign continues to inspire hopes of a return to the higher levels of the non-league pyramid.
