Bury FC has secured a new sponsorship with local retail giant JD Sports, following their recent success in clinching the North West Counties Football League Premier Division title.
The announcement, made on Wednesday evening, marks a significant milestone for the club, which has rebuilt itself over the past six years since being removed from the English Football League in 2019. A record crowd of 8,719 supporters packed into Gigg Lane for the final match of the season on 19 April, where the team’s victory secured promotion after an impressive 46-game league campaign.
JD Sports, whose head office is based in Unsworth, Bury, will now officially partner with the club. While specific details of the agreement have yet to be disclosed, both parties have described the deal as an important step forward.
Chris Watts, Bury FC’s head of commercial, said: “Partnering with JD is something we’re incredibly proud of – they’re a Bury-born business and share our passion for the local community. This isn’t just about commercial growth, it’s about showing what can be achieved when local organisations work together. There’s still a long way to go, but this kind of support gives us real momentum.”
JD Sports, founded in 1981, operates across three sites in Pilsworth Road remains one of Bury’s largest employers and a significant presence in the town.
JD Sports’ global reach now spans over 8,000 stores worldwide, but the company maintains strong links to its roots in the town.
