In an exclusive to Roch Valley Radio, we talk to the Labour Candidate for the upcoming Gorton and Denton by-election, Angeliki Stogia and the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Philipson about the by-election, Breakfast Clubs being rolled out across the constituency and Labour's Chances in the By-election.

As the campaign heats up in Gorton and Denton, the Labour Candidate has told us what Constituents are telling her. They say that the biggest issues in the constituency include the Cost of Living Crisis. However, she also talked about her experiences on the campaign trail, including the fight against Reform

During our interview with both Stogia and Philipson, the candidate said the by-election is,

"a two-horse race between Labour and Reform"

Current polling, conducted by Electoral Calculus, suggests that Reform UK will get 32% of the vote. While, Labour would get 22.6% and the Green Party would receive 23.3%.

The conversation then moved onto the plan by the Government to introduce more Breakfast Clubs into Primary Schools. In the next batch, four schools in Gorton and Denton (Rushbrook Primary School, Oasis Academy Aspinal, Longsight Community Primary, and St Bernard's RC Primary). Bridget Phillipson said the support follows a select trial of a small number of schools. A further 1500 schools will receive funding for Breakfast Clubs from September.

We asked Phillipson if the Government were still working 2024 Manifesto commitment of every Primary School having free Breakfast Clubs by the end of Parliament. In response, she said

"we are committed to the national rollout"

Stogia has also welcomed the introduction of more Breakfast Clubs in Gorton and Denton, adding

"If elected as an MP, I will be working hard to put more money in working families pockets, unlike Reform"

Stogia will also push for most schools to be included in the next rollout and would want to see first hand how the funding is helping children in the Gorton and Denton.

The candidate hopes that this election will be an eye-opener for the Constituents and is hoping that they will be able to back her following the resignation of Andrew Gwynne and the Scandal that saw the Labour Whip be removed. In response to our questions, Stogia said the messages were disgusting.

The election will be held on Thursday 26th February, with 11 different parties contesting the seat.
