Young people across Bury have received their GCSE results today, an important moment in their lives so far.
Bury’s students have earned themselves an impressive set of results, including an overall Attainment 8 score of 44.8. 42.7% of students achieved a grade 9-5 in both English and maths, an increase of nearly 3% on last year’s result. 59.7% achieved a grade 9-5 in English, a slight improvement on last year. In maths, 48.6% have achieved a grade 9-5, almost a 3% increase on last year’s result. These initial results are subject to change following remarks/appeals and have been provided by 12 of the 14 high schools in Bury.
Councillor Lucy Smith, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Well done to all our GCSE students today! I hope you all enjoy celebrating your results and take the time to relax before September. Whether you have chosen A-Levels, T-Levels, a BTEC or an Apprenticeship, Bury will be able to support your career goals. I would like to extend my gratitude to all our amazing teaching and support staff, as well as parents and carers who are there for our young people every day helping them achieve their dreams."
Jeanette Richards, executive director children and young people, said: “It was a delight to join students and staff at The Derby High School this morning and see celebrations first-hand, it was a joy to speak with students and hear about their plans for their future, from photography to accounting. Our young people are all amazing and we are very proud of them all, they are a credit to our borough. My thanks to our schools, parents, carers and all staff who have supported our young people”

Our young people should be proud of themselves; their success is not only a testament to their dedication but also to the excellent support and effort provided by our teachers, support staff, parents and carers.”
