Seven individuals have been issued fines for environmental offences in Bury, as the council continues its clampdown on illegal waste disposal.
Fixed penalty notices totalling over £2,000 were handed out for fly-tipping and littering in a number of locations including Radcliffe, Tottington and Bury town centre.
Four people received £400 fines for fly-tipping waste at Dumers Lane in Radcliffe, Harwood Crescent in Tottington, Colville Drive in Bury, and Wolsey Street in Radcliffe.
Three others were fined £75 each for littering in Parsonage Street, St Andrew’s Road, and Merton Street, all in Bury or Radcliffe.
Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “Everyone hates litter – it blights our communities, and costs taxpayers money to clear it up. We will continue to take action against those who dump their rubbish in our borough.”
He praised the work of local residents and volunteer groups who help keep streets clean, urging everyone to take pride in their surroundings. “If you spot fly-tipping, please report it, giving us all the evidence you have to enable us to tackle the perpetrators,” he added.
