Rapist who posed as good samaritan before attacking woman jailed for eight years

A man who pretended to help a woman get home safely before raping her has been jailed for eight years. Mohammed Al Masri, 25, was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court after being convicted of rape.

The court heard the woman had been on a night out with a friend in Manchester on 21 December 2025 and planned to take a taxi home after they parted.

During the early hours of the following morning, she realised she was being followed by Al Masri and another man while speaking to her boyfriend on the phone.

The two men approached her and offered to arrange an Uber home. The woman saw them enter her address and believed they were trying to help.

She became concerned when both men got into the taxi with her and shared her location with her boyfriend.

The taxi driver later told police that the woman had passed out during the journey and the two men helped her from the vehicle.

She was taken to a house in Manchester where Al Masri raped her in a bedroom while the second man remained in the room.

Her boyfriend had contacted police and provided officers with her location.

Police traced the address and found the woman upstairs before arresting Al Masri at the scene.

Al Masri claimed during a police interview that the woman had consented to sexual activity.

A jury rejected his account and found him guilty of rape following a trial at Manchester Crown Court on 2 July 2026.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.

Anna Mackenzie, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said, "Mohammed Al Masri posed as a 'good samaritan' when he offered to help the woman get a taxi home after a night out, but his motives were far more sinister.

"The way he targeted a lone woman who he believed would be vulnerable through alcohol was both calculating and insidious.

"Al Masri's vile actions have had a lasting impact on the woman. I truly hope today's sentence will help her move forward knowing that without her bravery and support, this dangerous man would still be in our community.

"There is no place for rape or sexual violence in our society, and the CPS is determined to bring offenders to justice."
