Middleton’s annual MayFest is set to return on Monday 5 May 2025, promising a packed afternoon of entertainment, music, crafts and traditional festivities for all ages.

Held from 12pm to 5pm in St Leonard’s Square and Jubilee Park, the free event will feature live performances, maypole dancing, a circus, mini-sports, fairground rides, games, food and drink, face painting and much more.

In Jubilee Park, the local St Michael’s Brass Band will take to the stage for a special concert, while younger visitors can enjoy the ever-popular Uncle Chris’s Punch and Judy Show. Skyllight Circus Arts will be offering workshops for those keen to try their hand at circus skills, and staff from Your Trust will be on hand to introduce families to a variety of sports.

The Middleton MayFest stage in St Leonard’s Square will host a lively programme of acts, including local dance groups, and singer-songwriter Rohan Young performing with his band. Returning by popular demand is five-piece covers band Hector’s House, who wowed crowds at last year’s event.

Councillor Susan Smith, cabinet member for communities and co-operation at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Once again Jubilee Park and St Leonard’s Square will be a hive of activity. The town’s May Day celebrations are enjoyed by hundreds of people each year and I am really looking forward to seeing everyone enjoy this superb community event.”

Councillor June West, chair of Middleton Township, added: “MayFest is a wonderful family day out and such an occasion for the town. May Day celebrations hold a special place in English life, deeply rooted in ancient traditions and customs and we’re proud to support this day of celebration and play a small part in keeping these traditions alive.”

The event is free to attend and suitable for everyone. Food and drink will be available for purchase. No booking is required – just turn up and enjoy the festivities.

Middleton MayFest is supported by Middleton Township and funded by the government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
