Littleborough and Wardle brass bands prepare for national finals

Littleborough Brass Band and Wardle Community Band have performed their National Finals test pieces at a concert in Dearnley ahead of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

The championships take place at York Barbican on Sunday 20 September.

The preview concert was held at St Andrew’s Church in Dearnley, Littleborough, on Sunday 13 September.

Littleborough Brass Band, conducted by Max Stannard, performed Snow Island by Thierry Deleruyelle ahead of competing in the Third Section at the finals.

Wardle Community Band, conducted by Jane Conway, performed Heroes of the North by Peter Graham before taking part in the Fourth Section contest.

Brass band adjudicator and conductor Matthew Ryan also attended the concert and gave both bands feedback on their performances.

Littleborough Brass Band secretary Jonathan Coomer said: “It’s important preparation for the bands to perform their respective pieces outside the band room and in front of an audience.

“Matthew provided each band with valuable feedback and insight as both bands continue to prepare this week ahead of the final on Sunday.”

The concert was attended by a packed audience at St Andrew’s Church.

Both bands will compete at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at York Barbican on 20 September.
