Thousands set for Bury BID 10K as running festival returns

Thousands of runners are expected to take part in the Bury Running Festival when it returns on Sunday 20 September.

The festival includes the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior races for younger runners.

The event is organised by Jane Tomlinson's Run For All in partnership with Bury Council and title sponsor Bury BID.

The 10K will start and finish outside The Rock Shopping Centre, with the route taking runners through Tottington and along Bury Road before joining the Kirklees Trail and returning towards Bury town centre.

Children aged three to eight can take part in the 1.5K Mini event with a parent or guardian, while runners aged nine to 14 can enter the 2.5K Junior race.

Bury BID is supporting the event as title sponsor for the third consecutive year.

Participants can also raise money for charities, with Backup, Bury Football Club, Jigsaw and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal named as official charity partners.

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All, said: "We're looking forward to welcoming thousands of runners and supporters to Bury for what promises to be another fantastic day of running and community spirit.

"Whether you're taking on the 10K, cheering from the sidelines or supporting one of our Mini and Junior runners, there's a real sense of occasion on race day. Councillor Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for Adult Care, Health and Public Service Reform at Bury Council, said: "The Bury Running Festival has become a fantastic fixture in our events calendar, bringing together people of all ages and abilities to get active, support good causes and celebrate our borough's strong community spirit. The Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior races showcase the very best of Bury, encouraging healthier lifestyles while also attracting visitors and supporting our local businesses.

"I'll be joining the runners again this year and, while I certainly won't be troubling the leaders at the front of the race, I'm looking forward to taking part alongside everyone else and doing my best to make it to the finish line. One of the things I love most about this event is that it welcomes people of all abilities, whether you're chasing a personal best, taking part for a charity close to your heart, or simply determined to complete the course.
