A man has been charged with multiple sexual offences against two 14-year-old girls following an incident at a flat in Bolton.
Greater Manchester Police have charged a 28-year-old man with the rape of two teenage girls in an incident that took place over the weekend in Middle Hulton, Bolton.
Sultani Bakatash, born 21 March 1997 and understood to be an Afghan national, has been charged with two counts of raping a girl under 16, one count of sexual assault, and one count of assault by penetration.
He was arrested during the early hours of Sunday 7 December following a report of rape at a residential property. It is alleged that Bakatash had been in online contact with the girls before meeting them in person.
The two girls, both aged 14, are currently being supported by specialist teams.
Bakatash has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court at 9.45am today, 9 December.
Chief Superintendent Helen Critchley, GMP’s district commander for Bolton, described the report as “deeply concerning” and said the force had moved quickly to make the arrest.
“This is a deeply concerning report, and our priority is supporting the two young girls and their families at this traumatic time,” she said.
“We remain firmly committed to protecting young girls in Bolton and across Greater Manchester and to help people feel safe in their neighbourhood. I ask that the public continue to support us while we do whatever is necessary to support the girls and to get this case solved.”
GMP confirmed that no other suspects are being sought and warned against speculation while the investigation is active.
“As criminal proceedings are now active, I urge the public not to speculate so that the legal process can take its proper course and the dignity of the girls is maintained,” said Chief Supt Critchley.
