Oldham based care provider Future Directions CIC is celebrating after being shortlisted for three prestigious honours at the upcoming National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards.
The not for profit health and social care organisation, which supports more than 300 people with complex needs across the North of England, has been nominated for The Employer Award, the Outstanding Contribution Award, and The People’s Award. The ceremony will take place at the ICC in Birmingham on Friday 4 July 2025.
The Employer Award nomination acknowledges Future Directions’ commitment to staff wellbeing and inclusivity. Initiatives such as its annual bonus scheme, healthcare benefits, and the 'Do Something New' fund, which enables people in care to try new activities, have helped set the organisation apart in the sector.
Managing Director Paula Braynion, a former NHS executive and trustee of Learning Disability England, is up for the Outstanding Contribution Award. Her nomination reflects a career dedicated to advocacy and equality, with a strong focus on ensuring that individuals’ voices are heard and respected.
The People’s Award nomination goes to Future Directions' SPICE Group (Supporting People in Community Employment), a team of experts by experience. The group includes individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs, and is well known for its Green Superheroes recycling initiative.
Eric Logan, who founded the Green Superheroes, said: “It would make me happy to get the award. It would show other people what the Green Superheroes have achieved over the years.”
Dr Daniel Docherty, a founding SPICE member, added: “The award would be another achievement we should be proud of as a team of trainers who are Experts by Experience. I am part of SPICE because making a difference is my passion.”
Future Directions employs over 1,000 staff and has built a reputation for person-centred care, community inclusion, and staff support.
