The family of Andrew Peak, a 58-year-old man from Greater Manchester, has paid tribute following his death in hospital after a serious road collision on the M60.
Emergency services were called at around 1.40pm on Saturday 12 July after reports of a motorbike crash on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M60 between junctions 25 and 24.
Andrew Peak was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and treated in the Critical Care Unit at Salford Royal. Despite intensive efforts from medics, he died two days later on Monday 14 July, surrounded by family and friends.
In a heartfelt tribute, Andrew’s family described him as “a man taken too soon”, and expressed gratitude to the emergency services and the North West Air Ambulance for their rapid response.
“Andrew sustained major injuries following an accident whilst riding his motorcycle,” the family said. “Without the attendance of the emergency services and rapid response from the North West Air Ambulance, it would not have been possible to transport him to hospital for further medical care.”
They praised the staff at Salford Royal for their tireless efforts to save his life, but noted that his injuries were ultimately too severe. “Andrew will be missed dearly by his family and friends.”
In honour of his memory, the family have launched a JustGiving fundraiser in support of the North West Air Ambulance, which relies entirely on public donations.
Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched an enquiry and thanked members of the public who stopped to help Andrew at the scene.
