The family of a man who died in a light aircraft crash in Littleborough have paid tribute to him as investigations into the incident continue.
Mustafa Qays Obadey, 39, from Greenford in London, was one of two men who died when a light aircraft came down on farmland in the Littleborough area of Rochdale shortly after 11am on Tuesday 3 February.
The aircraft had taken off earlier that morning from Birmingham. Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a crash, but both occupants were confirmed dead at the site.
Mr Obadey’s family released a statement through Greater Manchester Police describing him as “the most humble, kind man you’ll ever meet. A man made of peace. The glue of the family and community. Always available and accepting for everyone. Thank you Mustafa.”
The other man who died has been named as Arian Abbasi. His family previously described him as “a deeply loving father and a devoted husband.”
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are still ongoing. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is leading the technical investigation to determine what caused the small aircraft to come down.
Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who may have seen the aircraft in flight or witnessed the crash is urged to contact the force on 101 or via the GMP Live Chat, quoting log 1056 of 03/02/26.
