Bury VCFA’s chief officer, Helen Tomlinson, appeared live on Roch Valley Radio’s Community Spotlight segment this morning to share how the organisation supports the borough’s voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector.
Speaking on the Wednesday morning feature, Helen explained the breadth of practical support Bury VCFA provides – from helping new grassroots groups set up policies and manage volunteers, to assisting well-established charities with governance, funding advice and bookkeeping.
She also highlighted the organisation’s expanding training programme, which is designed to meet the diverse needs of local groups. This includes sessions led by external trainers and tailored workshops aimed at building skills and confidence among staff and volunteers.
During the interview, Helen praised the borough’s vibrant volunteering culture, noting that over 26,000 active volunteers contribute around 131,000 hours of their time every week.
Helen also took the opportunity to spotlight the Let’s Do It Strategy – a local initiative that drives inclusion, tackles poverty, and offers targeted grant funding to support families across Bury.
The full interview is available online and begins approximately 10 minutes and 30 seconds into the segment.
