The Bury Food and Drink Festival, originally scheduled to take place this November, has been postponed.
The indoor stalls at Bury Market are closed temporarily while investigations are carried out on Market the roof and building. This will determine whether any repairs are required, given that some RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) was used in the construction of the building in 1971; the local authority is currently reviewing public buildings.
A spokesperson for The Bury Food and Drink Festival said:
Due to investigative work on the building and roof of the Market Hall, and while all affected market traders are appropriately and safely relocated, we’ve taken the decision to postpone the upcoming Food and Drink Festival until further notice.
While this news is disappointing, we look forward to delivering the first ever Food and Drink Festival in the heart of Bury in the not too distant future.
Organisers are committed to rescheduling the event once the investigative work is complete, and details regarding the new festival date will be announced in the coming weeks.
