Following Andy Burnham's win in Makerfield, attention has now turned to the Greater Manchester Mayoral election, and all the main parties are announcing their candidates.
Over the next few weeks, we expect parties to announce their candidates, hoping to succeed Burnham and Manchesterism, which made him so popular and led to his huge win.
We will update this page with the candidates and the timelines as and when we get them. Think of it as your one-stop shop for all the Manchester Mayoral Election 2026, before the election, which will be held on the 30th of July.
The Labour Party
The Labour Party has set out its timeline for finding its candidate for the election, with those wanting to put themselves forward having until Sunday, the 21st June 2026 at 5 pm to submit an application. The National and Regional Executive will then shortlist candidates before opening the vote to its members on 23rd June at 6 pm. We expect to find out the candidate on the 26th of June.

In announcing its schedule, the Labour Party called out Nigel Farage's 'toxic and divisive party', claiming that Reform UK could risk the 'progress made in Greater Manchester'.
Green Party
We expect the party to announce the Green Candidate at a Press event with the Candidate and Zack Polanski, the Green Party Leader. In the last Mayoral election, Hannah Spencer (now MP for Gorton and Denton) gained over 45 thousand votes, just behind the Reform UK candidate.
